Let's talk comment moderation. Honestly, when I post a comment I like to see it posted. If the blogger is moderating, I'm still going to comment, I just have had my blogs set up to auto post comments...until recently. One of my blogs started getting hit by different spammers and while they actually post comments and not just a link, the comments have me going "huh?" So I set that blog to moderate. This morning I found 8 comments here from 2 different sources and again I was "huh?" For instance, On the post discouraging people to drink and drive over the Holidays I got comments similar to this, "If one purchases a good motorhome warranty then problem should be fixed." Really? I don't own a motorhome. Having a warranty or not has nothing to do with driving under the influence. If I'm wrong, dear reader, please be more specific on how this would work?
I also got several comments about "getting ready for Christmas". Now, either these folks are way more organized than I am or...they need to update what the are pasting in the comments. If that's even how it works. Can anyone shed some light?
I'm curious to know how many comments you delete each day? Is this going to get worse? Will moderation slow them down or just make it easier to delete them? Help Please.

I too moderate my comments before they are posted. I have only come across a handful of spammers, but one in particular keeps trying to post!!! Frustrating for sure....not sure if its really going to stop spammers but I do like that I can control what comments are coming to me....for the most part the comments I receive are all positive, so there has not been a need to remove most.
I don't know about SPAM but when I purchase car insurance, I buy from GEICO! :)

I have a few spammers too who never give up. The comments all go into some magical place thanks to a plug in but they are getting more and more creative, and they get by the spam bot. What I find really amusing is when I get the same comment from one spammer and then the same comment, word for word from another. I don't know if it is the same person or he has told his friends about getting in.
I always moderate comments and marvel at those blogs who don't and who rarely seem to ever get spammed. My cat, Sparkle's blog gets some sort of comment spam every day - sometimes it's just gobblety-gook (I assume it's a bot trying to find a weakness to enable it to hack into the site), and sometimes it's some other type of bot that's trying to put up links to a site that is either trying to sell something, or more malevolently, a malware site. By moderating comments, I feel I am protecting my readership as much as I am my own website.
I was getting spammed for everything that had to do with certain mail enhancement key words. It was awful, so we have been moderating for a long time.
Lately, I've been getting a lot of Russian comments, I mean, I don't even understand half of them

I get about 3 to 4 Anonymous comments everyday from any thing from software links to porn. Have no idea on how to stop. I do moderate, but it is a hassle.
BTW was that SPAM I read on your comments, about GEICO car Insurance.
Joe~ I haven't got any porn yet, but pretty sure I will now (just for saying that). I think your right about the GEICO spam, but that's who I use so I let is slide:)
